Your transformer preferences for Super Reverb build
« on: May 01, 2023, 12:02:07 pm »
I'm about to build a Super Reverb into a head cab to be useable with different speaker cabs and impedances, so I am thinking about the following transformers (see spec sheets attached):

Output: Hammond 1760K which has 2, 4 and 8 ohm taps.

Power: Hammond 292D2X

Choke: Hammond 194B

Reverb: Hammond 1750A

Any thoughts or preferences, especially for the PT and OT as compared to MOJO, Mercury Magnetics or others?

Look good to me.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

I've had great success with Hammond iron, never a faulty part, so far.
And, if you're in the US, https://www.hawkusa.com/ has the best Hammond prices, fair shipping, and great service.

Thanks guys.   Just ordered from Hawk.  Do you think there's any sonic advantage to the Mercury Magnetics over the Hammond or is it more psychological about the build quality and longevity being better?

I also wonder how the old original Schumacher transformers were in terms of quality compared to the modern Hammonds or others?
