Help Identifying Newcomb Amplifier
« on: May 06, 2023, 02:38:33 pm »
If anyone has knowledge or technical information on this Newcomb amplifier chassis I would surely appreciate it, have searched diligently. Found some Newcomb K-series info but from 1950's era it appears. I have a chassis only (not in cabinet) amplifier that has a 6CU5, 7199 and pair of 6L6GC's in push-pull. Solid state rectifiers, from mid 1960's. There is no model number on chassis that I can find. States it is for use with Newcomb K-Series only. Power transformer is TR-235, 3946435. Output transformer is TR-236, 3946850; has 4,8,16 ohm outputs plus 25, 70 VAC bal/unbal outputs. The output transformer has a fairly sizable core and if I am interpreting correctly the K-Series was near their top of the line performance. I am studying on using output in guitar amp using 6L6GC's. Very curious about who made the output transformer and possibly winding style/core materials. Thanks all.

I wonder if pics would be useful?    :think1:
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

"EIA Codes", transformers. http://www.triodeel.com/eiacode.htm#xfmr
394 is 'Foster Transformer'.

Wal I'll be a son of a duck. They are still in business since 1937.

They seem to be into Gas Turbine Ignition Transformers and other exotica; but drop them a line, they may have Grandfather's notebooks.
