Hot switch or JCM 800
« on: May 25, 2023, 02:15:30 pm »
Hello everyone, I have a Bassman/5F6 board from a few years ago. The project never got started for various reason. I want to use it to make a 2204 master volume style build. I am wondering if it would be easier to to a plexi with the hot mod or do a JCM 800 board. I have studied the layouts and schematics and it looks like only a few changes would be needed in the pre-amp section. Has anyone done this type of thing? All suggestions and ideas are welcome. Thanks to all.

I never done that, look not too much work IF you know how to solder well and read schematic.

… a plexi with the hot mod ...
Plexi is a rather non specific term, Marshall used plexiglass front panels for most of their initial decade of production for all amp models.
The point being that it doesn’t refer to a specific model / design, people use it to cover various different ones.
And note that there can numerous design iterations of Marshall model references, eg 1987. So to allow any contributors to be ‘singing from the same hymnsheet’, it’s very beneficial to include the schematic link or attachment you’re thinking of.

And what exactly do you mean by ‘the hot mod’?

I built Hoffman's Hot Switch Plexi with 6V6's. I ended up removing the switch and keeping "Hot" all the time.  :icon_biggrin:

I couldn’t do without a heft bright cap on the gain pot, but yes, it looks fun; I can’t imagine many people using the low gain input on a 2204
