Help me identify this Staco Variac please..!

Hey all,
I have this Staco, I think it's 2.5 amps.
If so, can I use this as my bench Variac?
I was thinking of housing it in the .001 capacitor box, last picture...

So I realize 2.5 amps is cutting it close and would not work for heavy current builds.
I just want to see if it's way too close or usable in a responsable way.
Anybody using this type of variac on the bench?

It would be nice for light weight amps (fused at 1A to 2A). Also used with a 6VAC transformer for testing output transformer impedance ratios. Or to build a mockup bias supply. Little things like that. Breadboard stuff. However, a 10A variac can do all that and so much more.
