Well, no.   I got some cheapie bookshelf speakers off ePay awhile back, and they din't stand up to 1984 Klipsch Heresy's.

Early JBL Summit speaker are pretty nice too. As for pre-1970 speakers the Altec Lansing brand had some pretty good ones, just ask Carlos Santana.
