Bought a used Swart Antares.
« on: June 24, 2023, 12:18:26 pm »
Hi guys, I bought a used Swart Antares hardly a mark on it. Sounds wonderful to me. Came with a Celestion Creamback 12" 75w. (Sound clip below.)

Anybody have a schematic for it or know where to find it?

Got it yesterday, only thing so far, verb is pretty good at low settings, but is not the best as you turn it up. I'd like to try a long tank. It's a capacitive coupled reverb drive, 12DW7 tube with a short 3 spring verb tank.

This is what the stock tank is; Mod 8FB2C1B, input Z 1925, output Z 2575. Input insulated/output grounded.

Is this the right long 3 spring tank to get:

Thanks guys, Brad Willabe

Looks good to me.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

But, what about the inputs? Stock tank says insulated input, new long tank says grounded input. Both tanks say grounded output. Typo?

Not a typo, but if you need to change the ground for input/output, it's easy, here's a good article on how to do it

Comes with a couple of good pictures.

  Nice amp!

I wish there were more swart schematics out there but I've only ever found one and it was for an AST.  I think it was on thegearpage.com or maybe ampgarage.  I made a clone based off of the schematic but added a master volume and slowed the trem. The 12dw7 based reverb circuits have yet to be as verby as a fender, but if you set the volume at noon and the reverb at full blast, it gets pretty verby for me.

Very cool - Buddy Miller and Vince Gill use Swart amps - two of the best pickers out there. I understand that some of the Swart amps are based on Gibson preamps - some of my favorites, but also kinda poorly built. I'll be interested to see what you find when you peruse the circuit - which I know you will. :icon_biggrin:

I ordered a long 3 spring verb tank from Antique Electronic Supply. It seems you can only get the medium decay with the 3 spring tank with the 1925 Z input/2575 Z output. It's got to be better than the short 3 spring tank, long decay, that's in there now.

It will take at least a week to get here.

I got the long tank a couple weeks ago. I've played through it a few times for several hours.

Much better, verb sounds like a much larger room, longer reflections/delay. Very noticeable. The short tank sounded cluttered? It sounded good, but not great. You could get a lot of verb, but the room sounded small?

It does sound different than a standard Fender BF combo amp reverb. Hard to describe the difference. But this 1 tube, capacitor coupled verb sounds fine to me, just as usable as a Fender.

I bought a used 2009, Collings I35 Deluxe, solid quilted Maple top/Mahogany back/neck, Lollar Low Wind Imperial Humbuckers. Run this guitar through an Analogman King of Tone pedal into this amp and wow! Very nice rig. (For what I like.)

I have several different sets of HB's to try in it, Ron Ellis LRP set, Tom Holmes set, Sliders set, Tyson Preacher set, Fralin Pure PAF, and 1 more I can't remember his name. LOL These are all lower output PUP's.
