Marshall JMP 2204 — Stuck Circuit Board
« on: June 26, 2023, 10:09:42 pm »
Ok, this seems like a weird one to me. I am doing some work on a 1976 Marshall JMP 2204. After removing the six small nuts & washers that secure the PCB to the chassis, I’m noticing that the board doesn’t want to move. It turns out that at just one of the six screw posts (the corner post at the rear of amp, at the input end) is very securely stuck. It’s almost as if the bottom side of the board is glued to the top of the post. I’ve tried all kinds of wiggling & cajoling, gave a squirt of DeOxit to see if a little hydrocarbon solvent would help — nothing.  :dontknow: Has anyone experienced something like this before? I don’t think this part of the board has experienced significant heat.

squeeze or bend the threaded post sideways so it moves freely in the hole? looks like its tight against the edge of the hole

Thanks for the suggestions. Yes, I’ve tried that. I may need to try that a bit more forcefully! I don’t think that’s the issue though.

:icon_biggrin: Yep — I’m a certifiable dumba$$! It was in fact bound on the side. Thanks for the encouragement. Mission accomplished without cracking the board. Perhaps I’m working with PTSD from a recent job on a Carvin wherein someone literally epoxied a knob onto the shaft of a front panel pot. I had to use a drill and Dremel to remove it!
