Pignose G60V re-do
« on: September 01, 2023, 08:11:23 pm »
I have a friend with a Pignose G60V that currently has some problems. its had several small probs in the past.  he thinks its because of the PC boards and the way its made so he's thinking of rewiring it point to point (hes a noob,,, like way way a noob, to amp building). he asked me and I said no way, too much stuff for a practical cure but maybe we can build you a board. or at least a partial board depending on condition of the power supply etc. I haven't looked at it yet but my question is, has anyone done this? if no, then what Hoffman board design is closest? I could use that as a starting point and redraw. I could do it from scratch if I had to but if its already been done

A qualified technician would certainly be able to repair it.

not what I expected to see. I've never been inside one of these, I expected a bunch of surface mount sockets, etc. not sure there is much to be gained by making a new board. he has wanted to build an amp for a while so the idea behind the project was partly to force himself into learning how amps fit together and how they work. I told him to pull the chassis out of the cabinet and look it over for broken wires, bad solder, burnt things, swollen caps, etc. I expect I'll see it sometime next week.
