Dual Lite Question
« on: September 02, 2023, 09:52:38 am »
Hey gang,

I’m putting together a parts list for the dual lite and I’m wondering what voltages the caps and resistors I should be using. The ones listed on the schem are a given, but I’m worried about the small electrolytics and the non high watt resistors. Can I use 25v caps for the 50uf, 47uf and 25uf electros? And what about 1/2w resistors, should they all just be 1w? I’m excited about this and just want it to be solid.

Thanks,

NR

All resistors are 1/2 watt metal film unless otherwise specified. I used 50V cathode caps because I had them but 25V is fine. I used 630V Xicons for coupling caps but 400V is fine. The three pf caps are 500V silver mica.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Bam!! Thanks Steve!!! I’m trying to use my “in stock” items as much as I can. Still gonna take advantage of the sales this weekend to get everything else. Damn ef86 is gonna cost me if I can’t find one here…

I would be tempted to use a 5654/6AK5. Only $4.90. Works very well in my little Smoky.

Really!?!? I’ve a beautiful NOS one in a box on my bench right now I pulled from the archive exactly for the Smokey. The lil smoker just got pushed to the back burner cause I don’t have transformers for it. That, and I’ve got nearly 3/4 of what I need for the dual lite. I may even have a 2nd one out there as well!!! Would I need to change the specs one the vox preamp side to accommodate it??

I would build it according to the Dual Lite schematic/layout with the only change being a 7-pin socket wired for the 5654. You may not even have to tweak any resistors. You will be in new territory. The 5654 doesn't have the microphonic issues associated with EF86. Let us know how it works out for you. Could just be an undiscovered jewel. And you could always change to the EF86 later if not satisfied. Easy to change sockets if you have a step bit.
