a pain to scroll for a station every time you turn the unit on.
  such are the toils of life

without a schematic, or interest, hard to say, for a few cents and time, try it, you might like it

Are you correctly storing the stations?
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

g:

Looking back, I realize that the few comments that I've left on this forum have involved more solid-state repairs than tube repairs.  So far, my own work and the comments that I've left here have worked out.

That said, working on PCBs in tight quarters is a dicey proposition.  Go forward only if you're willing to write-off this piece of gear entirely.

It sounds to me like the large cap that you've ID'ed is likely there to keep volatile memory charged while the power is turned off.  At one point I would have looked for a backup battery, but who knows?

60-40, replacing that big cap will fix your issue.  I'd go 70-30 if there were a schematic to look at.

SS, especially anything with plastic legged creatures, is near impossible to fix or troubleshoot without a schematic
