Black paint inside head cab
« on: December 19, 2023, 09:02:48 am »
Ideally i'd use high heat paint for the insides of the head cab but looking to save some money here and dont wanna use aerosol at this time of the year. So i have a can of black regular Rustoleum. Use it or spend the $30 for a can of high heat black?

plain 'ol paint if you're talking the cab itself, wood needs about 400F to start charring, you'll smell it  :icon_biggrin:

i'm guessing the inside of a head cab gets over 200 degrees. i'm more worried about smelling non-heat resistant paint fuming from the heat

I vote for timber stain. Whatever colour you like.
A bus stops at a bus station. A train stops at a train station. On my desk, I have a work station.

Go to home store, paint, "MinWax" display. Wood stain.

Get "Special Walnut" or "True Black" or whatever is the darkest on the sample board.

Since this is NOT to enhance the wood grain, crack the lid and pour most of the clear liquid off. So you have some clear liquid and some thick DARK goop. Stir that with a spatula or paint-stick, rub and smear into the wood.

Save the leftover for rusty transformers. It seals rust without losing the patina or mojo.

Also good for heavy stamped steel handrail brackets in a damp garage. Look like they came from 1400.

Use what you have. Ain't nothing special.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

+1 with Timbo.
Very reliable product  Easy to store/apply and cheap.
