Hoffman Pro Jr questions
« on: January 20, 2024, 02:33:35 pm »
Will the Blues Jr tube board pictured here https://el34world.com/Hoffman/images/Img_8853.jpg fit in the Pro Jr if the first Preamp tube is cut off?  Is the hole spacing the same?

Also I ordered Doug's BOM for the Pro Jr, and it came with 4 Preamp tube sockets and shields.  The pro Jr has 2 Preamp tubes and 2 EL84s.  I noticed the Blue jr comes with 2 different sockets for the EL84s.  Not sure where to order that part but its probably on the BOM for the Blues Jr.  Would I be better off ordering those EL84 sockets?

Be careful when deleting items from your cart.

I added the Turret baord first, then went looking for the BOM so I could add each part individually.  Then I saw the KIT link so I went there and found a Pro Jr KIT.  I added the enitre BOM which included the turret board.  Now I went to my cart and deleted the turret board I originally added, not realizing at the time, the cart also deleted the second one, which was at the bottom.  Because they are not the same item in the system, they did not increase the QTY to 2 items on 1 line.  Instead it made a second line, yet, when I clicked 0 update for the 1 line, it also deleted the other.  I made another video simply adding the Turret board from the turret board page, and the turret board from the KIT page ONLY, and it made 2 items in the cart.  When I delete one, they both delete.  THe names of the 2 items are slightly different.  YOu can see that video HERE.

I swear the board was at the bottom of the list earlier and the same price and the name was very similar, but not its at the top of the list and its $4 cheaper.  Perhaps its in the process of being edited to fix this?

I went and ordered a Pro jr board without any issues.
The only thing that was a hassle was to zero out all the parts I did not want and only order the board
So I created a new list on the parts list page that has all the boards only

The boards only link is at the top of this page
Parts List Index

As far as the Blues Jr Tube board goes, they are listed on the Board Building page and I only have the one color listed there
They were a hassle to design and are a pain to make on the CNC machine
And there's no need to use one if you attach the sockets to the metal chassis (As I thought about later when I did the Pro Jr)

I found after doing the Pro Jr test build, you can just attach the tube sockets to the chassis and you don't need a tube board
The tube sockets are different sizes because of the chassis hole sizes

I doubt that BJ tube board will fit in a pro Jr
And I am not going to design and make one for the Pro Jr

I never said I couldn’t order a board.  What I said is that the cart was putting the single board on one line and the board that was previously a part of the BOM on a separate line and when you delete the one it deleted both.  Its plainly obvious and its costing me more shipping to order again and that sucks for me.  Whomever made the cart system needs to fix it.  I added more stuff to the latest order so it wouldn’t be quite as bad.  If I could get a iece of that epoxy board, I would cut my own tub socket holes cause I think its a great idea, but I have no clue where to get it plain like that.  I’m definitely not going to pay another $12 shipping for a $1 piece of board.

Hoffman sells bare boards cut to length.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Too late, I already ordered the board.  We went back and forth on this subject and I got no answers until this post.  The holes in the chassis are too large for the tube sockets.  I never did get an answer about using a more appropriate socket for EL84s either.  Oh well.

All you have to do is look at my catalog and you can find bare board material.
You don't seem to want to do any footwork.
I have 17 emails from you wasting my time saying the shopping cart deleted your board

Here's a quote from one of your emails
"THIS IS A BUG in your cart system"

Plus many more quotes that are available if needed
I suggest you tread carefully here if you enjoy the forum

This seems completely crazy that you have to actually look around inside a catalog to find board building parts
