Handheld Oscilloscope
« on: February 14, 2024, 10:20:30 am »
Was thinking of purchasing this handheld oscilloscope I found on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BV9X733J/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A33KEXAIEXH1NV&psc=1     Was wondering if it is worth the price. It is only $65 and seems to have good reviews even though they spelled square - spuare. Other than that, what are your thoughts?

I think the answer is the obvious one -- you can't beat the price, and it may work just fine in troubleshooting audio circuits.

It's probably OK  but really a compromise for an O'scope. I would probably save up for a little while and purchase something like this.

Your link took me to my Amazon shopping cart. Which one do you suggest? I have been looking at some other pricier handheld O'scopes. I had an old Tectronic scope that I recently sold. Had a hard time mastering it and am looking for a simpler scope.

So sorry bro... fixed it..  I like the Hantek because it is like a Tektronix that we used in the military. It's not hard to learn them..  takes a little time and probably watching a few utube vids would be helpful.
For me as an older preson I keep resale in mind as well.

i'm still hung up on this comment.

a basic scope is all you need building/fixing/moding guitar amps
good, quality probes, I like a 1X, 10X, 100X as standard fare.
True RMS is a must, as it can be in a digital way :icon_biggrin:
having a built-in seg-gen is nice
having the ability to switch to FFT is real nice when designing n chasing rabbits

understanding how to drive, priceless
without a good working knowledge of your equipment, it's functions, the why's n how's of the reason you broke out the scope in the 1st place
it'll sit as that once new shiny object.

put the amp aside for a week.  bust out the books, read a feature, use that feature to understanding of that feature and why it's used.
repeat for each of the 87 features.  Learning by doing, beats learning by watching someone else doing.
final exam;
know what to expect from a good system before you measure, otherwise bad readings will look just as good as good readings.
Went Class C for efficiency

Thanks for the O scope recommendations. The Hantek looks like it will meet my needs.

It's not a Mars rocket!!

I did excellent work with the distant ancestor of this $39 'scope:
https://www.jameco.com/z/WSEDU09-Velleman-Whadda-Educational-PC-Oscilloscope-Kit-200kHz-Solder-Assembly_2191251.html
Yes, solder, but you can do that? Caseless, but for the bench you can prop it on the shelf, or build it into a TupperWare for road-tours.

Yes, "only" 200kHz. My "beat me kick me" H-P wasn't much faster, even after a forklift stabbed it. Before this I did some work on a re-invented DuMont that topped out at 19kHz. Infinitely de-calibrated too.

Sometimes a picture, ANY picture, is worth a thousand meter readings.

Thanks PRR. I can definitely solder and the price is right. Should be fine for what I am doing.
