Gibson Thor mod help
« on: May 13, 2024, 08:38:18 am »
I picked a Gibson Thor bass amp up really cheap at a garage sale. I replaced all the tubes and got it working, but I’m want to use it with guitar and I’m new to this stuff and I’m wondering if anyone can tell what needs changed to make this amp good for guitar. I attached the schematic

speakers, as many different one's you can beg borrow....
pickups, play through different guitars
pedals, as many different ones you can....scrounge.

now you are set to "understand" what you want the amp to do, for You.
then we can talk about tweak'n an R, a C.....
Went Class C for efficiency

Yes, try a guitar speaker first. If no joy, replace the tonestack as per the attached drawing.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

It isn't that different from a guitar amp.  The values in red are normal for a guitar amp.  You could duplicate the V1A cathode resistor and capacitor combination on V1B.
