I was thinking about my next project.

My thinking:
Use the SLO build by Rob Robbinette and build a 100 watt version.

Then add an FX loop and plug into the bass preamp pedal and out into the preamp return.

I read that the SLO power section is supposed to be clean so that sounds like it could work.

Why use the SLO?  Because I love the sound of it when I want to play guitar.  Then it would be a utilitarian setup for me.

I would be using different cabinets.  The bass version would have a bass cabinet to play through.

Would this work?  Are there better ways?

Thanks

Can you post the schematic that you'd like to use?

Sounds like you should just build an SLO100 and plug into the FX loop

A bus stops at a bus station. A train stops at a train station. On my desk, I have a work station.

It looks like this FX loop is pre-tonestack though.

You could move the FX loop on your build to post tonestack but pre channel master.  You could also use a shunting jack that acts as an input to the PI, but is essentially a jumper when nothing is plugged in.

Yes, I believe the fxloop is before the tone stack.  Moving it to after should be what I am looking for.

One thing to consider about using a guitar amp as a bass amp, especially a high preamp gain amp like a soldano, is they will limit the low end frequency at the output to tame the power section.  So, you may not get the expected results using it with a bass guitar.

The PI is relatively full frequency.  If he injects the bass signal right before the PI with adequate preamplification and into a bass cab, then there should be no problem.

The more I think about it, the more I think you should build the SLO as designed and just use a shunting jack right before the PI input cap. This way you have a full functioning SLO and a "power amp in" jack.
