Love the handshake meme. I always try to do all business on a handshake basis. Became harder when my business grew to a staff of 80

When our clients increasingly shifted to utilities and governmental orgs with all their rules and paperwork, I was more than happy to exit. A few years ago I bought a 50 acre woodlot on a handshake. The seller was a bit shocked when I said, "a handshake is good enough for me." A month later we closed and the lawyer had a huge stack of papers to sign.

I also bought a 7.5A piece of land on my word n handshake, but this 'ol boy was a farmer n thought that was just normal. I asked If he had a family lawyer to take care of the paperwork n I'd pay 1/2, he did..
most of the genX adopted the fist-bump during the stupid years, that works for me because the "tell' is still in the eyes

the last 20+ years, I haven't asked guvmint for permission (permits, licensee, etal)
the last inspector asked about "something" that required guvmint permission, saying he didn't have any records; "Well you're the guvmint, I wouldn't expect you too keep very good records"

I worked in a kitchen as a teenager and they used to send new people to the shop for "salmon legs" mixed in the order with all the other stuff

It never worked apart from this one waitress who set off out of the door and then she came back a few minutes later really pissed off

same sorta thing when I 1st got onboard my ship, I was sent looking for relative bearing grease!!!
got lost half-dozen times, wound up at all the major work centers. they send us on those wild-goose chases for just that reason, familiarizing the "lay of the land", well ship!
