what's the 1M resistor from input grid to the cathode of the second triode do? I've seen grid resistors to ground but this goes to the cathode pin ?

There is no grid to cathode resistor.

ya i was zoomed in the schematic thought i was looking at V2 preamp tube but that was the PI. only one preamp tube in this
