Greetings from Michigan
« on: February 21, 2025, 11:48:37 am »
I've had a casual exposure to electronics throughout my career and now that I'm retired, I'm actually taking the time to learn more about it. Since I'm a firm believer in hands on learning, I opted to build the KT88 single ended amplifier on the Blueglow Youtube channel. Mark designed his own version of it and made an excellent 13 video series on building it and explaining how it all works. It was a rewarding experience and best of all, it sounds great. In the continuation of my quest for knowledge I am in the middle of building a phono pre-amp based on circuits in the RCA Receiving Tube manuals. I may be asking for pointers since I'm on my own with this one.

Welcome to the Hoffman Amps forum

There are many different boards on this forum for different topics.

The Tube Amp Building - Tweaks - Repairs board is where you can post amp questions.

That board is listed here.

I'm about 14 miles south of Battle Creek MI, buried in the cornfields.  You picked well, once I used the KT88 parred with EDCOR Iron all other tubes seemed oddly lacking

I'm in the corn fields East of Lansing.

I used a NOS Stancor power transformer that I had on hand and chose the Hammond choke, but the Edcor outputs were Blueglows suggestion. They are impressive (Not to mention, expensive). The whole thing weighs in at an impressive 38 pounds.
