Philips 1N4007G diode
« on: May 25, 2025, 06:21:22 pm »
Can I use these in my amp?

I was thinking of adding diodes as a "safety" to the rectifier tube socket and possibly use in the bias circuit.  Amp is a Hoffman PR build.

I never see anything like this used.  Spec sheet says "1000v 1A Standard quickness... bla bla bla you've reached the limit of your understanding".  That last part of the spec sheet was in bold italics.  They know their customer I guess.

They are tiny!

Those should be fine. I'm partial to sintered glass... I just dig the aesthetic.

You'll probably hear from others that you'll want a 1200V+ diode for use as backup to the rectifier.  But in a Princeton I think you'll be ok. They're also overkill in a bias supply--fine to use, but they'll outlive us all.

If you want the sintered glass with fast recovery, avalanche function, and a high reverse voltage I really like the SF1600.

Thank you stratomaster!

I put them in.  If they fail, I guess it'll just blow up!  They are, dare I say it??? Cute!  I like em.
