I've been reading this forum as a guest off and on for a long time. I really enjoy the variety of theoretical knowledge and down-to-earth practical advice.
What motivated me to become a member right now was seeing Merlin asking for suggestions for his new book. I have a few things I would like to see discussed.
I've been into tube amps (and especially tube bass amps, I play bass) for a long time. Some of my earliest happy memories involve peering over the edge of the workbench as my father fixed TVs and radios, back in the days when transistors were still new-fangled gadgets and every corner drugstore had a tube tester. I went to college and got an EE degree a little too late for there to be even a mention of tubes in my coursework.
Right now I'm starting a rescue of an early AA270 silverface Bassman in kind of rough shape. It has a blown power transformer and power supply filter caps that either have failed or are probably likely to fail soon as well as a lot of cobwebs and some corrosion. I have parts to fix the obvious problems, but right now not a lot of time to work on it (gigging in one band, recording with another, occasionally subbing in a third). I'll start a thread with some pictures later.
Thanks in advance for all the help I'm likely to need here!
