DMM resistance readings falling
« on: October 14, 2025, 09:39:23 am »
In the last few weeks my meter, Fluke 117, has had issues providing stable resistance readings.  This is especially evident on higher values, but not approaching internal resistance, in the 220k-2.2M range. I know high value resistors can read low, but this isn't that. The readings are "in the ballpark" but always fall and don't stabilize in a reasonable amount of time.

This is new behavior and a replacement battery has not improved anything.  Is this a sign of an internal fault, or some other issue?

Meter is at least 15 years old and has not been in for calibration or service in that time.

At the risk of asking the obvious, have you tried a new set of leads?

Yes. It isn't related to the leads.

  • No well conceived plan survives the event.

Yeah, that's not right.   I would call Fluke directly and ask their advice.

I have the same meter, and it has been rock solid for ten years or so . . .
