6G15 Chassis Hole Layout
« on: October 24, 2025, 07:16:20 am »
Hello,

I'm working on a 6G15 clone project and am preparing the layout for chassis holes.  I've determined rough locations for holes on the bottom of the chassis ( tubes ), however I wanted to be more precise on the holes in the top of the chassis.    I'll end up with my own DIY face plate but may eventually replace it with an authentic fender face plate.  I want to ensure it will fit.

I've roughly calculated the following chassis hole locations for the top panel, but realize they may be off since I used second hand values and images of original panels instead of physical ones.  I've measured from the left side of the panel to each hole center.  Does it look ok?

From left side of chassis:
Mounting Hole: 0.5in
Power Switch: 2.3in
Fuse: 3.55in
Light: 4.8in
Dwell: 8.36in
Input: 9.63in
Mixer: 10.88in
Tone: 12.27in
Output: 13.54in
Mounting Hole: 15in

Thanks!

Most of those holes will be 3/8", not 1/2". In order to guarantee the face plate will fit, you should buy the faceplate first.

Here's a thread that discusses this question on Surfguitar101:

The spacing given is center-to-center, measured from the mounting hole on the left, so you would want to adjust accordingly.

This is what I was looking for, thank you!

Who should I order an official face plate from?  I could buy one.

For the faceplate, here are the hole sizes I calculated:
Power, fuse = 3/4"
Light = 11/16"
All POTS=5/8"
In/Out Jacks=3/8"
Mounting Holes=3/16"

P.S.  I now realize purchasing a new face plate from the fender website and/or parts department is not possible ;)  Not sure if the reproductions are spot on or not but will check them out.

Here's one possibility:
https://modulusamplification.com/6g15-reverb-style-front-faceplate---select-your-colour-4456-p.asp

Thanks, I have an email to them asking if it's the same layout as the original but I'm ordering one.

For the non-faceplace holes, I plan on leaving my panel mostly blank and I'll just drill them as I mount components.  Not sure yet what footprints I'll need for the transformers/choke etc.  I'll be using a water jet to cut the chassis so I don't want to put holes in the wrong spots and potentially prevent new holes from being drilled adjacent.

Does anyone know of a supplier selling 6G15 faceplates which fit the original fender 6G15 chassis?   Modulus support confirms their layout is not guaranteed to fit.  I believe MojoTone also has their own layout ( for the chassis anyways )  My uneducated guess is fender used manual hole punches so the layout dimensions vary slightly for various build years and they also used manual hole punches for the chassis.    I'll spin up my own face plates with those published values and do new face plates in the future if required.

You could avoid a lot of aggravation if you just buy this chassis and faceplate made by zach. He's a good guy that's been around for a while. $65 is a good price.
