Very old Speakers from Music Manb
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I had a trashed music man amp years ago that someone gave me. I parted it out and tossed the rest. i was pretty green. I've been hanging on to the speakers for over 10 years now. I had used them for a short time back when I got them and I thought they sounded prety good. The amp I think was the HD120 or something like that. It had 4 power tubes, but a solid state preamp. The speakers resemble the alnico type with very large horshoe magnets. They are quite beefy looking and kind of heavy. They are in tact, but aare in very ROUGH condition. I'd like to trade or sell them OR even better, have them reconed. Do any of you know where I can have them reconed for a reasonable price?

Here's a list of Re-coners that Weber keeps on his web site.
Weber will do them for $45 plus shipping (12"), the other companies may charge less (or more)?
If it were me, I'd have Ted Weber do the re-cones. I don't think there's anybody better in the business of speakers. When you get them back, they are basically "new" vintage speakers. Jeff
(From the Weber website)
Reconing includes:
Demag, Clean, Remag
Replace all soft parts (cone, gasket, voice coil, etc.)
Replace or repair loose magnets
Recenter shifted poles
Disassemble, clean, replate, and reassemble rusted magnet circuits (plates, pole, etc.).
Replace damaged terminals
Full testing.

We match the original parts as close as possible or recone to the customers specifications.

What kind/ brand of speaker are these?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wow, that's awsome. These would be very nice speakers if they can repair them to that level of newness. As far as I know they still work, so they would have one to look at while rebuilding the other.

Does anyone have any idea what kind of speaker these are?

Re: Very old Speakers from Music Man/What Mfg?

 Harry,
If there are any #'s stamped on the speakers, post them here.
The makers are ID'd by their #, (such as 220 = Jensen), usually the 1st 3 #'s of a 6 digit code. The code can even tell you when they were made.

Yea, I just read that in a book the other night. Didn't occur to me to check.

Looks like 677 for the first 3 digits, I can't read the other speaker.

The Mfg #67 is Eminence, the other 7 is for July of whatever year they were made, late 70's , as the HD series was during that time period, only mfg'd from 1974 to 1979.
Here's a LINK TO a history of MM amps, including the type of speaker used in each amp. If you go to the home page at the site, they have some other interesting info.
(I bought a MM 210-65 in 1976, and it was a great little amp. It had a 12AX7 PI and 2x 6CA7's for power. As with most of the amps I have owned over the last 30 years, I would like to have that one back.)
