chorus pedal clock noise
« on: May 09, 2026, 07:48:53 pm »
I havn't used it for years because i was into modeling and i used internal chorus'. But having just got back into tube amps i am using it but that constant clicking makes it unusable. Low gain is ok but a classic rock degree of OD and it's too much. I tried a electro 47uf then 100uf from 9v to ground but this is clock noise....can that even help with that kind of noise? Any advice? I don't wanna use the effects loop but that'll be a last resort.

What brand / model is it? There may be other people with a similar problem with that particular unit,

https://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php

https://www.freestompboxes.org/

Are both great forums for FX stuff

I had a similar issue with a old Mutron Phasor, it had a tick when used directly into the amp when I first got it, tried the power supply "filtering" technique and it didn't really help anything, recapped it anyway and it got a tiny bit clearer, but still ticking a little, got worse with a transistor amp I was using,

But then used another pedal in the chain afterwards and no more tick, so it seemed to be interaction with the amps input that wasn't helping either, maybe a not so ideal impedance was making it louder with my amps input,

Maybe try a few different types of pedals just after, do you have a Boss pedal or similar, something with a buffer and see what happens....

Try a separate power supply.  Sometimes piggy backing the power supply can transfer noise from one pedal into another.  I sometimes get that when I plug my phaser and a dirt pedal into the same power supply.  When I separate them, so problem.  You didn't say you were piggy backing, but thought I would mention it.

It's a behringer, and yes, they're cheap. But i've had several and they've been quite good and are usually copies. this i supposedly a copy of a boss chorus.
And it happens even when i plug it in by itself, no pedalboard and using a battery.
I thought maybe the plastic housing, but i wrapped it in tin foil as an experiment with the foil touching the cable plugs to ground it and zero change. So i don't think it's the housing. I've had other chorus pedals that were metal that do this too so i think it' poor design.
