Tweed Bassman Speakers
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am starting my 3rd DIY project - Tweed Bassman - and wanted to know if there is a big difference in tone between Jensen AINCO (P10R) and Ceramic (C10R). There is a big price difference and I wanted to know is it worth the extra $ for the AINCOs.

Ceramic speakers usually have a bigger, more agressive low end, while Alnicos have more chime, better mid-range tones. Some folks like one, some folks like another.
For what it's worth, Ted Weber's standard recommendation for 4x10 Bassman replacement speakers is to use two 10A125s on top and two 10F150s on the bottom.
I have this combo in my 5F6A and it sounds very good indeed.

Steve at
www.angela.com has the blue frame Fender alnico's for $50 a pop. Alternately, you could try the new Reverend Alltone 1025 (ceramic) at $40 each.

I use Kendrick Black frames which are very good. They respond the best to pick attack than any other speaker I have used including the pair of Fane alnico's that I put in my NEWJOYZEE.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I will use 2 alincos on the top and 2 ceramics on the bottom. I will probably use the Jensens since I can get them locally (at a decent price) at Antique Electronics in Tempe AZ.
