wurlitzer tube amp organs: the sad, sad, story.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
several years ago, before i had any interest in tube amps, my parents bought me a wurlitzer organ, fully tubed out. the thing was enormous, and after several months of really not learning how to play the thing, i ripped it apart. it had a 300 watt amplifier in it with huge transformers and the entire back of it was littered with noval tubes; probably 50 or more.
i kept all the tubes and took the amp out, but after a couple months i never did anything with it and decided to throw it away. my dad asked me, "are you sure you want to throw all that out? doesn't take up much space." now throughout all my life i've had a bad habit of hoarding things that i might use in the future but probably wont. this was the time that i decided to "be smart" and say, "dad, what are the chances that i'm going to actually use any of these tubes? i keep everything else and what do i actually need?" well needless to say, i threw away the entire amp, and didn't keep anything.
it's been so long that i can't remember what kind of noval tubes were in the back of that organ. i hate to ask because i'll probably find out that they were useful, but i'd rather know than not. does anyone know what kind of tubes wurlitzer organs used? i really hope no one says 12a_7s...

Dont feel too bad, you can likely pick up something the same or similar on eBay. A lot of organs used banks of special tone-generator tubes with multiple plates and were not good for much else. I used to have a lot more tube stuff cluttering around the house but made a large donation to the local ham club.

well that makes it a little bit better to stomach! those transformers would have been nice, but at least i probably didn't throw away 50+ american 12a_7s.
