Tonal Plexi
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey Guys, just finished a plexi project using mostly dougs stuff, added a MV, PT sw, an effects loop.
the thing is plenty loud and sound good but not great, seems to lack that rich tube/plexi tone. also seems to have a small oscillation when playing a power chord with the channel volume up and the master down, sound almost like the guitar is out of tune. Does anybody have a voltage chart that i can compare my voltages to, and or any ideas on what to try? Also thinking about putting a direct out on it,any suggestions on the best way to do this?
Thanks for the help,
Norm

Hard to say what's going on.
I would start with the basic circuit and add the bells and whistles one at a time to see when it changes.
Everything you add to a basic plexi circuit changes it.
Especially effects loops.

My first attempt at amp building was somewhat frustrating. When I started the project I assumed that with the last solder joint and a flip of the switch it would be instant Fillmore. Wrong!
That was nine months ago. I can say that today I'm very pround of what finially turned out to be a great amp. But I tweaked it almost daily and ended up taking it all the way back to stock to make sure the amp performed as it was suppose to. Once that was done and I could live with it, I then ended up moding it to what I wanted, ever so slowly. I learned that you can not change a resistor, hit a few power chords and expect to be there. Another thing that helps it not to have any neighbors to worry about,(I live in the Ozarks),and being able to dime it reveals alot about the sound of the amp that you wont get with a MV.
So my suggestion would be to disconnect the MV, Loop, and any extra gain stages. Get the amp to sound like a plexi. Find a place to play it loud, play it,have someone else play and you walk around listening, and stick with changing one thing at a time. Then i"de go back in and start adding my mods.
There is a page on the net that lists the stock marshall voltages, but I can't seem to find the link at the moment.
They would only be a rough estimate anyway.
Good Luck
