 What's this about?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was just wandering around at schematic heaven and happened to look at the mig50.
Does anyone know the purpose of the diodes coming off of the plates of the output tubes?

hmm without giving it too much thought, looks to me like the only way those diodes would conduct is if the voltage on the left side is lower then 0V. (since the right side is grounded) Looks like they're making sure that the OT will never see a negative voltage coming off the plates. I can only assume that its to protect the OT.

thats my 2 cents.

I'm starting to think that it might be to reduce crossover distortion.
If it's doing much of anything useful, it seems like it would be more common. It's not like that is something difficult or expensive to do.
Any more opinions out there? Where's our EEs on this one?

Fender uses those diodes too (Blues Deluxe) supposedly to protect the output transformer from voltage spikes in the wrong direction. Whether they do or not is open to discussion. Sometimes one of the diodes shorts and causes the fuse to blow.
I had trouble opening the link but finally hacked my way in.

 Thanks.
Whenever I see something different I tend to wonder why.
It might be faster to just go to schematic heaven and find the link there.
