Forum for dummers?

I love this board - everyone is friendly and helpful, in a non-egotistical way.  ... except when it comes to drummers - just kidding.

My sweety got me a drum kit for xmas (yes I opened it early).  I have a few questions about setup, LH use, blah de blah and would like to find a forum for drummers that might be helpful like this one.  I stay way away from harmony central.  Any suggestions?

Yeah, I am half looking forward to the drummer jokes.  Like cant keep rhythm... hitting em as hard as they can... cant splel  (ahhh - its happening!  I am starting to turn!!  Mine branes! I can feel 'em start to mush!  "must hit things, must hit things, more cafeene!")

I'm a dummer.  Whacha wanna know?  I've never even looked for a dummer forum.  Seems like there would be a buncha posts, "yeah, I can do that too."

He keeps knocking faster and faster and still doesn't know when to come in.   :D

Hey Richard,  first of all, I'll get the joke out of the way:

"What do you call a Drummer in a Volkswagen?  Farfromthinken."

OK, now onto more serious things.  I am new at this and the only drumming influences around here would teach me real bad habits.  I found enough info on the web for proper drum position, so I think I am good for a while.  Its my left hand.  Far from strong and on the beat, but I am sure that will come (I am very disciplined at practising with a metronome).  My problem is that I want to get a good snare hit but I keep hitting my LH crossed over to the HH.  Suggestions?

Maybe raise the hi hat or play with the tilt of the snare drum.  There's really no right or wrong way to set up a drum kit.  Whatever is the most comfortable for you is correct.  I like my drum heads flat to the horizon and pretty high.  Most other drummers hate my setup and start adjusting thangs immediately.... lowering the stool, tilting the snare, relocating cymbals, etc... etc...

A fundamental rudiment to master is the paradiddle.  That's RLRR LRLL.  A good trick to getting to the next drum with the correct hand.  Work on it slow and try to make it 1 dynamic level, so that it sounds like a machine doing it, not 2 discernible hands.  Of course open and closed rolls.  To start getting in the pocket, play along with simple songs like Louie Louie.

OK, I can't help with drumming info ToN, but I think you'd enjoy watching this You Tube clip of drummer Mike Mangini on the Discovery Channel's Time Warp program. These guys have ultra high speed cameras, record stuff and then play it back in ultra slo mo. The whole clip is interesting, but at about 4 minutes in, the slo mo of what happens to a snare head and then the cymbal has to be seen to be believed.
