1973 Fleetwood Mac - Hypnotized

You guys may be suprised by my guitar tone on this one.
single coils baby with sort of a jazzy tone.

I have been working on this tune written by Bob Welch. In 1973 he was a member of Fleetwod Mac.
This tuned appeared on the 1973 Fleetwood mac album, "Mystery to me"

I was trying to get a hold of cincyKid to do the vocals because this tune suited his voice and not mine.
Anywho, I did not hear back from him and so I went ahead and did the vocals. :(
I hate my voice, maybe Cincy will check in and agree to do the vocals. :)

It may swamp small computer speakers, I have the bass and drums pumped up.

That sounds GREAT!!!  What's up with you not liking your vocals??   ???

You did a superb job and that is NOT an easy song to sing.  I thought you vocals had alot of expression to them &  with the repetitive theme on the song ......... your vocals were still interesting and energetic. It would've been real easy to have them sound monotonous and flat but they weren't at all.   Good job with it!  I hope you don't trash the vocals on this tune!  I thought they were spot on. I think they were some of your stronger vocals that you've shared.

I liked your playing. More laid back and it had a really nice groove to it! Captured the original feel of the tune really well.   That's a fun tune.  I appreciate you sharing.  This will probably be one of my favorites of yours!  I remember playing the original on LP's. Another example of the diversity of your fine playing.

Thanks Jeff, but if a real singer did this, it would be much better, IMO  anyway.

Having a ball with Mixcraft 4.5 , it has so much cool stuff.
On this tune I used, a piano , organ, acoustic bass, some synth fills.
Midi stuff is really cool.

Your vocals are reallllly good on this!  Comparable quality to the original singing in my book. Your timing and the expressiveness and singing in tune ......... all of it is nailed.  Think about how different some live performances are from the original recordings?  I don't hear anymore difference than that in your singing from what I remember of the original?  The multivocals and delay sounded superb to me.

Thru headphones, it sounds more like a mic'd amp than your previous GuitarRig stuff to me? Seems to have a little bit more natural sounding breakup in the guitar? Did you use one of your amps on this one or is it still Guitar Rig stuff?

one weird things is the keys dont sound quite part of the mix?

those keys sound 80% panned at least if not 100. - try bringing them back to centre you may find if you leave them of centre at 40%  that you;'ll still perceive them "over there" in the mix but they'll sound more like they're in the song/mix.

i never pan more than 40% unless i have two sources of the sound of phase in which case i might go 70-100 left and right depending on the sound - mono hard panning can be tricky and sometimes only work in a song with a zillion tracks.

course its a subjective thing i know!

I think I stuck the piano about 40% to the right because the guitar fills are on the left side and it seemed to sound pretty cool to have the two intruments spead like that.

Was the piano what you were talking about or the organ?

Still like this tune of yours. Vocals are pretty cool, IMO.

Did you record a mic'd amp or use Guitar Rig on this one?   I can't tell?

It's my Ibanez guitar with both pickups/middle position.
Both hummers switched to single coils.

It's guitar rig using an Orange amp head or a Laney amp head with an Orange 4x12 cabinet, can't remember.

There's so many sounds in GR3, you can spend all your time creating different presets.

Bob Welch's voice is very smooth and way better.

Now, if only some of those idiots on american idol would record themselves and have a non biased listen.

I had some time to go back and finish up this tune.
I added some more vocals
I also moved the piano so it sits a bit behind the beat.
It was a bit ahead of the beat and sounded weird to my ears.

I liked the second much better, and the spoken comes out great, tough song to reproduce, and you did well. The vocals need nothing, good job. All your music is just like your amps, meticulous! I bet the squirrels like it too.

I must have hit play just right, your tin man was sipping oil exactly in beat with it.
