Angle Jacks for speaker outs.
« on: March 12, 2009, 10:34:50 am »
Of the two or three types of right-angle jack I've see along the way, I'm happy with none for use as a combo amp speaker output.

I like the slim ones best because they don't protrude out past the cab, to catch on the floor of the van bed when the amp is being loaded face-up- but I don't like the tight clearance and flimsy contacts. I don't like the sealed units because I can't see in them and I've had several fail, I can't trust them. The stubby guitar style right angle jacks are also too tight and protrude out past the cab.

Does anyone know of a high end part that is fail-safe doesn't take up too much space and is inspect-able ?

I've never had a problem with either of these Switchcraft plugs...

A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

(heresy alert)

Go Neutrik they have a nice recessed (forget the number- at work) dish, and you can use either angled (nice strain relief) or straight plugs... and... you can use the locking plugs or regular phone plugs. Wire 'em up with 14 gauge SJ/SO bulk extension cord and you're set.
This problem calls for a bigger hammer!

The Neutrik plugs are solderless yes?
I'm not sure about solderlerless in this application.

My favorite and choice above all others (for what that's worth):

The Neutriks are okay and they are soldered but they're kinda huge! Also, they're partially plastic, at least the ones I've found.

Depends on the type Neutrik makes 'em both ways (screw& solder) I prefer solder. Make sure it's Neutrik and not the cheap imitations.

should get you pointed in the right direction, they make 'em in a recessed shell so you don't have anything sticking out to snag on anything. (I can't find the exact one at the moment... might be over at PE.
