FV-1: simple effects in guitar amp
« on: March 27, 2009, 06:56:07 pm »
Here is an intersting Chip " FV-1" and circuit baord you can make for effects.
The Company called " SPIN Semiconductors "
Web link: http://www.spinsemi.com/guitar_amp_application.html
Price:
Quantity 1 – 99:             $10.00 USD each
Quantity 100 – 999:        $8.50 USD each
Quantity 1K – 4,999:      $7.75 USD each

I am going to put this in to my new combo. They provide design for a PCB board you can make and for another $125 you can purchase a development board that you hook up to your computer to create new effects.

Not too many folks here will be buying thousands.

What you get for $10:

""The Spin Semiconductor FV-1 is a complete reverb solution in a single IC.""

Yet another DSP (Digital Signal Processer) chip. But this one sold by a guy who is an "electronics design addict".

What you can build with it:

You can implement it many ways, and write new software for it. The $125 development board makes this easy to prototype. But unless you want to learn DSP-think, it is still a steep learning-curve from slapping bottles and iron together, even though Keith Barr does his best to explain it.

Assuming I don't want to solder micro-SM parts, and don't want to learn DSP, I'm not sure what the advantage is over gutting a $99 Banjo Centre reverb-pedal and mounting the board in my amp.

Sorry PRR never intended to imply that you would buy thousands of chips but you can buy one for $10. When I read the forum topic for neat " chips " Sorry my bad I took it as a chip when I should  have taken it as a fully assembly. It is nice to use your brain and create a circuit and experiment.
