echoplex
« on: May 08, 2009, 12:56:20 am »

A week or so ago, a friend at the local airport wanted to give me an Echoplex. I said" what the hell am I gonna do with that? ) He said he thought it was from the early 60s  I told him my kid who plays guitar may want it to fool with. So he gave it to me and I gave it to the kid.  Looks like a never-ending tape delay type rig. Anybody have/use one?  I believe it's a solid state amp in there but not sure, since I didn't look close at it.
I'll never figure this out......

Yes.

They have become somewhat precious.

There are people who will throw a fit when they hear you gave it to your kid.

+: once setup it sounds sweet, gets great lofi tones and effects that are hard to emulate otherwise (moving tape head while running)
-: maintenance, not very pedalboard friendly
i'd say clean it up to use it at home as a "studio gem" and get him a stomp box delay for taking to practice.

Or if it's in good shape, sell it for ~a grand and buy yourself a passle of new lap steels! Maybe even one of those thingies with all the pedals underneath...

Naturally, I was thinking bicycle. Why try to be like Buddy Emmons when you can chase after Lance Armstrong!
