...19 years to life...

At this point, is there really a difference?

He was a legend in earlier music for sure. I've never been a huge fan, some of the stuff he did kinda was over done (I.E. the long and winding road, Beatles). That said I read a few things about him and he had a violent streak to him, (John Lennon for one was scared of him) so perhaps justice was truly served. But I agree, if 19 years is the minimum he may not make it.

Dyna

Mind you, I'm not saying the sentence is undeserved - even if you don't intend to pull the trigger, it's a really bad idea to point a gun at someone, much less put it in their mouth - just that at this point 19 years is as good as life.

The Ramones have well-documented stories of Phil holding them at gunpoint and made them listen to him play Baby I love You on the piano all night.

It was a matter of time...

... and he deserved 19 to life for End of the Century.  He completely ruined the Ramones.

I guess that power tie and power hankie combo didn't help for some extremely odd reason.  Maybe his karma was thrown off by the 'Klinger' rash he developed from having to wear generally normal clothes.  Or it could have been his decision to have the Bay City Rollers do his hair for court.  Either way, something must have gone terribly wrong in Hollywood that allowed one of the rich-n-famous to actually be held accountable for his/her actions.  It's about time.

Be my Baby.
The song that drove Brian Wilson even deeper in cookoo land.
I could listen to this song 100 times back to back.
I am up to about 15 so far, shooting for 100.

This one is lipsync'd and is the original tune.

This version is really good

I don't confuse the work Phil Spector did with his personal life.
yes, he's an evil man, I don't condone his behavior.

You have no idea what people do behind the scenes until it is on the 6 O'clock news.
If you did that, you would hate just about everyone in the world and not be able to enjoy anything.
People are doing nasty things in secret all day long and you love them until you find out.
Oh, I don't like the way he treats his cousin, or his aunt.
That girl pushed down Susie Lumquist in the third grade.
He treats hampsters mean.

I just enjoy the sounds and don't think about all the other crap.

Mackie2 here--What year was the B&W "Be My Baby"?

Do you know where Hendersonville is?  I was in the 2nd  grade there-- I remember going to a Brevard  football  game with my uncle when I was 7.

Hmm, don't know what year that was.
Hendersonville is about 15 miles away from me
Brevard is about 6 miles.

Oh, for sure.  Hell, messed up personal lives is kind of normal in Rock and Roll.  Jerry Lee Lewis married his 13 year old niece.  Chuck Berry's prediliction for underage girls is rather less than savory.  I can think of more Rockers who have had drug problems of some kind than haven't.  And I'm certainly not going to think any less of Phil Spector's musical catalog because of this (though, to be sure, his was kind of spotty at times - he royally screwed up with Ike and Tina.  Hey!  There's another one - Ike Turner was a bastard among bastards!)  I'm still damn glad he's in jail.

Then again, even if I liked his music, I would never buy a damn thing by Gary Glitter.  Some people's actions are just too damn sick.

Gary Glitter? now I'm gonna have to go wash my monitor and take a shower- (shudder) one of the worst 'pieces of work' in modern history. right down there with A C Clarke. Maybe he should move to Sri lanka too.
This problem calls for a bigger hammer!

Chuck Berry is both an a-hole and a genius.  But I also think being an a-hole helped him achieve that level of success in that type of music (the anti-Nat King Cole) as a black man in the 50s.
I will be swift.  And merciful.

If that was me when he put down the gun he would have got the ass kicking of his life. I would have left him within one inch of death just so that he could have been arrested and put in jail. He is were he belongs, too bad it took the life some innocent has been wannabe woman to put him there. She did nothing to deserve that fate. I'm glad some rich guy did not get away with it like OJ did. But as with OJ and Phil who is now a woman in jail what comes around goes around......it's all karma man.
