Ted Weber has passed away

I'm sure many of you already know this, but it seems Ted Weber passed away yesterday.  He will be sorely missed.  A really good guy and friend.  I didn't even know it until this morning.

Yeah I just found out. I have talked with Ted many times over the years and he has helped me many times. I hope his son runs the company well. Many people have different feelings about Webervst but this is a huge loose to the amp world.

Yepp, some about Ted himself, as those over at 18watt.com had some big issues that resulted in 18watt shut down for a time and speak of him or his products a no-no over there by threat of legal action on Ted's part. (Guess issue was a comment/complaint about one of his products.)

I do hope that his family keeps the business up and going.

 Thats real sad. I know in his blog he mentioned about lung problems or something but I didn't know he was that close to death. I don't think this is the time to talk about that deal at 18 watt dot com that he was vilified for, I don't think people even know the whole story of that deal and much of it probably could have been avoided had they moderated better over there at the time. He brought affordable building to the masses and made some great speakers. Yeah he had to shave some corners with the price point and used Asian parts but you build to a price point. He'll be sadly missed.

If one goes over there to 18w, they've got a thread talking about his passing too, and even though that meltdown is/was problematic, there are still plenty over there that respected him, and how attentive he was to his customers, even those who were around for the incident.  We all can get so bent out of shape that actions and situations can leave nasty effects, even the best of us. It's part of being human... It's just good to know that he was a good man to know overall.

What a shame.  I have a BiasRite and it's a very good tool.  Never ever had 1 single problem w/ Weber.  I too hope they keep the company up-n-runnin.

I wonder if sarcoid is really so rare. Diagnosed by a process of elimination as PRR's link states. My mother in law died from it recently. It was a slow, heart rending experience. She didn't even smoke.

Due to my issues I forgot what Ted told me. He explained it all to me. I just don't remember and did not keep our correspondences.

I did have an issue but that was with TA a few years back. Ted was always there for me whenever I asked a question (not always about music/amp stuff)or wondered were my order was...LOL. He made sure it got to me.

My fear is that if this economy doesn't pick up some good guys are going to go out of business and I will be back to were I was in the 1980's. I had trouble getting parts and repairs and even reverted to using Randall SS amps. I used to just go to the TV repair place and get tubes and stuff. Then I was like were did all the places go? They all closed in an instant. The Randall amps sounded pretty good but not like a tube amp. Then the explosion of boutique amps and everybody was making parts for this and that, it's great now.

This is very very sad news. I love weber alnico speakers, and I think these speakers has a huge impact on sound of all my amps. I love 50's tweed amp sound and especially 5E7 bandmaster sounds wonderful whit weber speakers. Next week I will finish my (I think) ninth 5E3 deluxe and 2x10" extension cab (this time for my self). And yes, both has weber alnico speakers.

I remember years ago he did a little write up about some comparisons between different reissue speakers. I was looking into picking up a 4x10" set. There was something that was unclear to me in the write up that I sent him an email about.

I got a long detailed reply, something like 2 pages long answering my question and then some. At the time I thought it was pretty cool of him to take the time to do that. Later I realized that his write up was an in depth positive review of one of his competitors. No mention of "hey if you like that we have a better one" or anything of the like.

It reminded me of something out of "Miracle on 34th Street". Not many businessmen would basically send you over to their competition. I've never heard anything but kind regards from him about his competitors that made a solid product, those that didn't were left nameless to the best of my knowledge.

I never personally met the man but I know he left his mark on this earth and will be missed. Very sad to hear.

Even here in Australia the man had a good reputation for quality speakers. I haven't used his speakers but have bought chassis and a heap of other parts from him....stuff that Doug doesn't sell. I can't complain about the products or the service and will also miss him as he has helped me out with small problems.
My deepest sympathy to his family, and hope the business goes from strength to strength for his son.

That really is sad. I knew he was in bad shape, from my correspondence with him last year. He helped me repair some 30s speakers, and Weber's are all that I use on new builds.

 It sure HAS been a bad year so far, good guys are dropping like flies.

Ted worked with us on the Vintage Silvertone Site to make a Weber to fit the narrow 1482 cab. Great Guy! His race is run, now God Bless his Family through this time.

Oh crud.  Ted was a nice man and I love his speakers and the MASS I've been using for years.

My condolences to all of Kokomo, IN.  A great loss for them.

I was just informed by a coworker that Ted Weber died. Has anyone else heard this? I know that when I corresponded with him about my last Weber order he emailed that he was going to the doctor quite often and referred me to another email address if I had questions.
