Got to be a way to make any pedal into true bypass
« on: September 20, 2009, 07:53:16 pm »
Isn't there?  I mean isn't true bypass a simple thing.  I have a nice old analog distortion that I can't give up.  I made an old double footswitch into a bypass unit for my boomerang and for the disortion pedal but would like the pedal off of that  octopus. I love this dist box but does that baby suck the tone when it's off.

Theoretically....yes!
In practice......not always.  The level of simplicity depends on what you are starting with in terms of the switch type and other circuits attached to it (e.g., buffers, indicators, etc..)

Here is a nice little blurb on the topic.  The author chose to build a multi position looping box to meet his goals.

You can build a true bypass pedal. A metal box, four jacks and a DPDT stomp switch.
I really don't think true bypass is such an important thing.  I use a couple of Boss pedals and they don't degrade sound at all.  Of course there are some old pedals that are known to create problems.
