Way out there...
« on: January 10, 2010, 10:12:51 pm »
Don't read unless you've seen the 3D Avatar.

I thought it was well done, I even was able to suspend my knee-jerk aversion to big anti-environment corporation swoops down and rapes virgin planet & sapient indiginous life forms Al- Gore tie in.  The three biggest influences were Heinlien's Red Planet, Starship Troopers, and Disney's Pocahontas. I was pleased to see the best example of Powered Armor yet in a mainstream movie. Freaking awesome CGI animation. I'm not a big movie buff, but I'll give a couple thumps up.
This problem calls for a bigger hammer!

Yes, very well done. The family saw it at a Dolby 3D theater (flat screen). I was honestly afraid the Imax experience might be too much for my tummy to handle, but the way they accomplished and accommodated the 3D aspects were fantastic. Well worth the money just for the CGI and 3D. I, too, suspended my aversion for socio-political statement, and just regarded it all as plot device and entertainment. Sort of Dances with Wolves meets Pocahontas in space. Agree, two thumbs up!

I also liked it and I didn't even see it on the big 3d screen.  However, the "sergeant rock" character went from believable to absolutely ridiculous in a matter of minutes.  The script is the weak point in this movie.  Still, an impressive movie!

JMHO YMMV!

Saw it.  It was lovely.  The physics were distractingly improbable.  The story was non-existent.  I think they should have optioned Ringworld for the as the first demo of the technology.  Imagine seeing the arch over the world in 3d on an IMAX screen.  THAT would have been worth the effort.
