Wall Warts and 220 Volts Abroad????
« on: April 15, 2010, 01:03:27 pm »
I'm going to Europe for a two week vacation and have to take some electronics with me.  Cell phone, camera battery charger, iPod, and laptop PC.  Er, CPAP machine too.  I already bought a 125/240 volt hair dryer (for the wife guys!) and a 110/220 voltage converter that can sprout 4 different kinds of plugs.

Does anybody know what kind of wall outlet is "standard" in Spain?

Can I plug my cell phone charger into a 220volt outlet with a simple adapter, or do I need a voltage converter for each gizmo?  Or does it depend on each wall wall and/or its related device?

Thanks for any suggestions/advice,

Chip

Each device hopefully expresses its own capabilities on some kind of chart printed on it. In recent years I've had no problems with modern power adapters bought in the US as they're probably created for a global market and can handle 110v-240v.

But you will still have to use adapters for the physical connection.

Also it may depend on which part of the country you're travelling. On the east coast, in a sleepy village I found the actual wall outlets had differing physical sockets, whereas in Madrid it was very consistent.

Simon & TON - thanks a bunch!  All of the mission critical gadgets say "100-240 VAC 50-60 Hz" so I should be good to go.  I do need to buy another set of adapter plugs though.

Let's just hope that volcanic ash from Iceland blows out to the east/north and we can fly to Barcelona on Monday!

Cheers,

Chip

The cloud goes south / southeast but isn't very thick south of a Paris - Stuttgart line. Transatlantic air traffic should fully resume before Saturday.
