Silverface Twin Reverb

I have a disaster of a Silverface Twin Reverb in the shop. The chassis gets an overhaul but the cabinet is falling apart. No finger joints here - just glue and staples. The glue came loose long ago so when i pulled off the raggedy tolex the cabinet fell apart. I am thinking of using polyurethane adhesive, the kind that foams, with lots of screws run into the end grain. Any better ideas?

That gorrilla glue is great for that type of repair. Wood glue only works well on fresh new joints but the urethane glue really sticks for repairing loose old glue joints. I had to do the same repair to a Twin reverb cab, glue, clamps and screws for all the joints. Good luck.

Well I was able to knock the sides and top panel loose. The speaker bezel is glued solid to the bottom and about .090 inch to one side causing the other panels to not fit. Some hand work with a wood plane and wood chisel helped a lot. Then drilled holes for various screws and dampened the wood and applied Gorilla Glue. It's great! The glue foamed out between the loose joints and even out the holes where the staples used to be. Ran the screws in and all is well. I don't expect that cabinet will ever come apart again.

Funny that you mention that the tolex was all that was holding the cabinet together... Friday night I was backstage when Marty Stuart was having his equipment loaded on stage (he uses a couple of SF Twins) and when the stage hand grabbed one of the Twins, you could see the top of the cabinet stretch because the glue joints had failed...

Worst I ever saw was a vintage Fender with the bottom half crookedly sawed off by a cheap jigsaw. The idea was to make a "head". All joints were loose with only Tolex holding it together. The thing would go trapezoid when you set it down.
