Hound Dog Taylor
« on: June 22, 2010, 02:24:42 am »

I mentioned him in another post and thought I'd post a link that has a player on the screen to hear the song 'See me in the morning' free. I loved the guy Hound Dog Taylor and the House Rockers were a strange trio but could jam. Two guitars and drums, no bass. Sadly the band ended when in a little party Hound Dog had at his house, his other guitar player Brewer Phillips and him got in a fight after Brewer said something about HD's wife, I've heard he hit Hound Dog and Dog then went and got a 22 rifle and fired two shots at him. I think like in the arm and leg. Brewer pressed charges, but Hound Dog would instead go to the hospital. He was dying of lung cancer and very very sick. He died days later after getting his death bed wish of having Phillips forgive him. He died the following day. Sad story, but blues guys lives are often that way, to much whiskey and bad choices. His epitaph was pretty simple: "They'll say when I die, he couldn't play sh*t but he made it sound good."
This cut 'See me in the Morning has what I think is probably the nastiest most raucous tone I have ever heard. I think he played a teisco and the amp speaker at least on a few cuts had a speaker with a cracked cone (sounds like it on this cut). Without further blabbing here you go, just scroll down the page to the player:

Always been a big fan of HoundDog Taylor.  I like JB Hutto also. Interesting how they got the "bass" runs covered on a guitar.

With respect, Tubenit
