new Tweed Overdrive clips

There have been so many fabulous versions of this tune, that I was hesitant to even attempt it. My version isn't that good but I enjoyed recording the tune alot & had fun with it.

The recording sounds more compressed and lost some of the touch sensitivity, harmonics and articulation that the amp actually has live, but it does give some sense of the amps ability to sustain. I had the level at around "4" & the drive around "6" so there was plenty more sustain left in the amp.  The PPIMV was around "4.5" so the amp wasn't that loud. The PPIMV loses alot of tone below about "6" on my amp. I will eventually replace it with the VVR which suites my ear better.

My guitar volume was only on 6.5-7. If I dial the guitar to over "8", it will sustain til it feeds back and has more blooming effect. However, my recording system is very mediocre & I have trouble getting an OD tone to record well for some reason.

Dang jeff, you beat me to the punch!  I just downloaded the backing track for this tune!  I love this tune.  You did a fine version yourself.  Although you were just getting settled in and wailing when you started the fade!  We want more! We want more! Maybe dial up a little more grunt to replicate that Jeff Beck "splat" and you will have it nailed.  That and a little fire, explosion, and I do hope you trashed that Tele.....

Man, when I was done with Going Down ........ I promptly took my Tele and smashed my amp to pieces and threw the guitar thru the window pane into the back yard!

ON this tune, I ran the Tweed Overdrive into the poweramp of the Carolina Overdrive Special. Essentially the power amps are almost the same except the COS has VVR.  This was recorded no louder than the computer speakers at medium. No louder than I watch TV.  That's why I like the VVR.

Guitar vol was 7 ............... OD was at about "5" (so to speak)  &  VVR was at "3".

NO effects pedals were used. The sustain is the amp.  I added some delay & compression in light amounts & EQ'd it.

Correct!

The topology between my TOS and COS in the power amp is identical with identical value components. However, B+ is somewhat higher on the COS. However, the only real signficant difference in my thinking and hearing the amps is the VVR component. 

If the VVR is dialed max and the PPIMV is dialed max, the TOS preamp sounds about the same thru either the TOS or COS power amp (despite differences in some voltages). I am not sure in a blind test (with power amps at max), I could distinguish the TOS from the COS power amp (using the same speaker)?  They sound that close to me.

The TOS has the PPIMV which I am not real found of at lower volumes. Below "6" on my amp, the PPIMV really loses alot of good tone & sounds mediocre. I don't feel like I lose good tone with the VVR on the COS until I go below about "3.5" which is pretty quiet.

I'd love to hear some other versions of Going Down!! I thought mine was "OK" but pretty mediocre & I know there are a gazillion better players on the forum than me.

I think it was about 3-4 yrs ago that about 5 of us did versions of the same tune & I really enjoyed that.  EL34 came up with a killer version that just totally blew me away.

Here is another one (slow blues sound clip)  with the Tweed preamp into the COS poweramp using the VVR. The VVR was dialed down pretty low maybe around "3"?  Again, no pedals were used. This is close to what the amp sounds like live.

It starts off with the neck pickup and I like the tone when it first switches to the middle/bridge combined which is the first tone change on the tune.

I seem to have no luck accessing the soundclick files.  Every time I hit the link I get sent to the soundclick home page but no way to get to the file.  I have even tried cutting and pasting the address into a browser window and still nothing but the home page.  What am I doing wrong?

OK- I answered my own question.  I can get them no problem in a pop up box using Internet Explorer but using Firefox its no go.  Not sure why, but problem solved.
