Cheap way to emblem your amp cabinet.
« on: August 06, 2010, 10:44:46 pm »
Hey guys. I just spent $15.00 at Autozone for some Pilot brand emblem letters etc. to create a new look for my 18W that I originally placed a Marshall emblem on. I felt guilty about it and had to replace it for good karma. The chrome "Omega" motif may be spray painted with Fusion White to make it more outstanding. I'm going to look for a greek Omega symbol to go on the grillcloth somewhere and if anyone knows where I can get on somewhere, I'd appreciate it. What do you guys think?

I think it is a professional and sharp looking alternative to custom manufacturing work (which may be necessary for that Greek Omega symbol.)

The Omega symbol, btw, are you looking for the upper-case (Capitol) Omega, or the lower-case? (I'm assuming upper-case.)

Thanks Shrapnel. Yes, the capital version of the omega symbol. If I can find one about 2" tall, it would go nicely in the upper center of the grillcloth on the baffle or perhaps lower right on the grill. I'm thinking that a collegiate supplier may have one that may work. Anyone reading this that knows of a link please chime in. Thanks

Thanks again guys. I'll probably just buy another set of letters and paint'em white 1st. I may even change the name of it too. I was rackin' my little pea brain for the last few days trying to decide what name to put on it...
COMET, BANDIT, ALPHA-X, AREA 44, AREA '51, MOTONE, BLUZTONE, NOVA-18X, AXEMAN, MERCURY, PULSAR, MAXTONE, CLUBMAN, REACTOR, DETONATOR, TNT AMPS, ENFORCER, MAXWATT, MOWATT, X-WATT, etc. It drove me nuts.
Anyone else got any ideas for a name or like any of the above better than OMEGA?

I like Omega. You could do a complete line using Alpha, Beta, Gamma, etc, depending on size, wattage and use.

Great idea! Great result!

How about getting badges off of an old Oldsmobile Omega?     I've used old car badges on amps. I just go to "pull your own parts" junk yards, but swap meets and flea markets are good ways to find these things too.

I keep thinking about those Chrysler winged emblems you see on PT Cruisers and 300's, or maybe logos from a GTO, Rambler, Challenger(I originally wanted) etc...the possibilities are endless. It is worth hitting a junk yard to see what you may come up with. Because I originally had a %arshall emblem on my one piece baffle I had to place items that would cover the holes. I still need to mess around with the theme until I'm happy with it and the Omega moniker is OK but if I see or think of something better I may change it.

Actually Simon it's a Squier '51 guitar. These were only made for 2 years('05/'06). Indonesian with basswood. These are great "hybrid" guitars with a fat tele neck and interesting controls. It has a 3 positon tone switch and a push-pull coil splitting volume control. I bought mine new from MF in '06 for $100 and are hard to find now at twice that price. I love this guitar and it's a real sleeper. I modded mine with a pearloid guard and a bigsby style tremolo. The stock tuners are just fine too. There are a great bargin.
Back on topic...I'm going to just leave the emblem the way it is for a while as it's growing on me. I need to focus on a printed control plate anyways.

Looks good! I just had this lady do a logo for me: http://www.precisiondesignin.com/
3" x 3" laser etched aluminum was $10. She was super nice, super to quick to reply to email, and she does turret boards and faceplates.

*edit* I sent her the artwork (as an .esp file) on a Wednesday and had the nameplate in hand on Friday.

I found those same letters for $.99 each at Discount. They have an adhesive backing so I put them on the metal front grill (looks like a Peterbilt) of my head, then dripped a little gorilla glue on the back to make them really stick. It looks awesome, thanks for the idea lowatter.

Yes, I need to thank theundeadelvis for the info on Presissiondesignin.com. She (Sandy) was infact great to deal with. The amp/logo plate she made for came out great. She had it done in a day and shipped it as fast as Doug gets parts out. Oh yea, good price too.

Thanks again
johnt
