Yet another Clapton yard sale...
« on: March 04, 2011, 01:38:19 pm »

Looks like Eric's trying to raise some more cash :)

My favourite so far: http://www.bonhams.com/usa/auction/19226/lot/75/

Or perhaps this...but you have to wonder, does playing blues need to be this complicated?

Or maybe this old JTM-45: http://www.bonhams.com/usa/auction/19226/lot/123/

Yeah, and Fender is going, "Man, we GAVE him all that stuff!"    The only thing that looked good was the Marshall cab stack from Derick and the Dominos.....

The old JTM-45 would be OK, but it would be nice if it still had its Tolex.

The ones I'm laughing about are the prototypes for the reissue "Blackie" and his old ES-335 - the originals of which sold during his LAST auctions (or maybe the one before that - I'm not sure).

That old JTM-45 really pressed my button - especially because of the missing tolex!

I was under the impression that the auction is for charity, maybe I got confused again.

Yes, all the money is going to the Crossroads treatment facility.  Well, except for the auction house's fees, one assumes.

I'm looking through the final sale prices, and I have to say that some people really have more money than sense.  I mean, $70,000 for a 2008 Martin?  A D-12-28, at that.  If it were a D-100 or something, well, that would still be stupid, but for a D-12-28?!?!?!?!?!  Though, the dumbest ones so far are the almost $8,000 for a Takamine, and over $10,000 for a Schon!  Those things were as bad as `80's Kramers!  And then there was the $3,000+ for a little park solid state practice amp!

It would certainly be a better motive than I think was actually going on.

It all reminds me of why I think the guitar market is going to crash one day.  It's reminds me, at times, very much of the Dutch tulip bubble crash in the 1630's.  One day, one of these guitars is going to fail to sell for a insane price, and the bottom is just going to drop out of it.
