would you squezze a revibe into a 6g15 chassis?
« on: March 22, 2011, 06:47:02 pm »
as per the title - would a revibe fit a 6g15 chassis or does it require more width to allow for extra tube socket and components?

dude - you do seem cranky these days - if it isn't posts in the wrong forum - people not finding the wire on the wire page  - or questions like this!!

how do you keep on going?

"in my defence"

while very aware of the extra tubes and components on the board - i have never seen a standalone reverb close up - they look kinda sparse from the limited far away pictures i have seen.

i was just curious if any body had tried making it fit - it was a genuine question

i meant neither to offend or frustrate

kind regards
Cheers,

I don't think that was being cranky.

All he did was answer your question. One word and one little funny guy.

Now this is cranky......        :m13         :violent1:             :director:           :cussing:             :BangHead:          :argue:

oh i thought that was the smiley for

"doh - cant you think?"

"smileys, a whole new world of misinterpretation" - as if humans aren't bad enough with words!!"

my apologies

The main reason i asked is that chassis are hard to get over here - whereas i can get the 6g15 chassis easy from the dreaded tubeampdoctor (neccessaties only mind)

I have no problem shoppping with doug for other parts i have yet to do my first inventory shop of parts for building tube amps as i started out buying a job lot of unfinished parts and projects from a user here.

The chassis is a problem as weber really do charge a large amount for shipping - like over 100 for the chassis - which costs  that itself!!

i cant drill em here - at least i wouldn't go at it without a proper bench and clamp setup which i don't have access to -

shame as i can source undrilled jtm45 size chassis  for 40 bucks to the door.

Bakerlite

Yeah, it's easer talkin face to face or on the phone with someone.

Did you see this thread? A couple of the guys said they drill chassis with a hand power drill. Might be helpfull.

If you compare the pictures it does look like Doug used the same chassis.

I don't know where this guy is located but he might be on option for you. He makes and sells blank alu. chassis. If you decide to punch out you own.

Doug's revibe chassis he got from weber according to the article:

it does look like the 6g15 chassis is indeed the same dimensions  except with extra holes

which 'theoretically' means you could squeeze the revibe board in there.....

photos can be deceptive though.

Yes, the link shows Doug's revibe and the picture shows TAD chassis.

Sorry about the confusion.   :new1:

     I can see that.

No, were wondering if the Weber chassis that VMS posted the pics of is the same size as the Fender stand alone chassis thats pictured in the library. VMS also posted the link to Doug's revibe. Looks like it is a S/A chassis that Doug/TW added/modded with a few extra holes.

But.......

Look at what Doug posted in answer to bakerlites question.

as per the title - would a revibe fit a 6g15 chassis or does it require more width to allow for extra tube socket and components?

:think1: - yes

In the library it looks like and from the text Doug wrote about e-mailing TW that Doug did use a Fender stand alone chassis that Doug/ TW modded.

Ok, I did some searching and found the dimensions for the 5g15 and 5h15 (revibe) Weber chassis:

I would not drill all those extra holes in a nice new chrome 6G15 chassis.

The parts layout and wire lengths may be totally goofed up.

Why not just get a Re-Vibe chassis?
Does Weber not sell them anymore?

Im thinking in his post a few pages up he states if he orders it from weber by the time it gets to him its 100$ which is to much so he,s trying to go a differant route.
Thanks Bill

If you use the layout drawings that VMS found and posted links to, I don't see why you can't mod the TAD chassis.    :think1:

They look to be Webers own layout order sheets that he sent to his chassis maker.

I count 6 new holes to be added, 2 RCA, 2 pre/tube sockets, 2 pots. And if you go with the 1/4" stereo jack for the FSW on/off you only need to add 1 RCA jack. So only 5 new holes.
Well you also need 4 little holes to bolt in the 2 new tube sockets, not a big thing.

Sorry I can't give help for the solution of the problem

but reading here, I remembered what Tiny Daddy told few days ago

Sometimes it seems amp building is all about making holes.

I think that is really right !

You'll need good tools, and likely some cutting fluid to drill extra holes in a steel chassis. My personal preference is for chassis punches for the larger tube socket holes.
