JPG and .sch files to GIF?
« on: March 25, 2011, 06:10:26 pm »
Is there a program you have to down load to convert jpg and .sch files to GIF files? How are you guys doing this? I've spent a fair amount of time working with the sch program and have gotten comfortable with it now. I would like to be able to down load/post a schemo to ask questions, but I've only been able to figure out how to post a link and not post the actual schmo itself. Also sometimes the .sch file is too big and I can't post the link. I've read that GIF files are smaller.

I printed a copy of a drawing I did in .sch and then scaned it back into my computer as a photo and was then able to edit/crop it in windows photo. I found that I could also use windows paint to add changes to it in there, but I still can't change it to a gif file and post the actual schmo not just the link.

It would be much easer to ask questions while at the same time having the schemo posted on the forum and not just the gif link.

The only way I've found to open a .sch file is I have to save it and then go and open it , which is a pain. At least when a gif file is posted as the link it will open right then.

I have 4 scratch builds (chassis/turret/eyelet boards and all) that I already have the trans. sets for and most of the parts including cabs/speakers. I've been sitting on these plans/parts/builds for too long now. I have the time now to stay focused long enough to start --and-- finish them.

I have to learn how to do this next step in posting/working with a computer or I'm not only going to have a hard time building these, but I'm going to be a pain to you guys, posting long worded alkward questions.

Any help will be greatly apprecated.    :help:

It's the scan of my print out! I notice next to the little paper clip for attachments there's some kind of title? So there's a few way's to do this? Anyone care to unlock the door of understanding for me?     :undecided:

Well, it turns out my Paint pro. does it. Just had to figure it out. It can do a few different file types.

I think my Word pro. can do it too. I'll try to figure it out too.

Does any body look at this section of the forum? Any way, at least now I can post my own schemo.

Opening a sch file without saving it to your computer?
That's a setting in your computer.
Don't remember where that is right now
My notebook computer ask if I want to open the .sch file as soon as I click on the file link.

Hmm, the .sch files are really small.
For example, the Tweed Bluezmeister in this post is only 36k

Are you trying to get a .gif drawing from a .sch schematic drawing?
BTW, Jschem can export in several formats like PDF, JPG, GIF, PNG

Here's two ways I do it in ExpressSch

ExpressSch can only create Bitmap files .bmp, not .gifs
But you can open a .bmp file in your favorite drawing program and then save it as a gif file

method #1
Open the .sch file in ExpressSch
Go to the File menu and pick Export Schematic image
Export the sch drawing as a Bitmap file

Open the .bmp file in your drawing program ( I use Paint shop pro)
Edit the file, crop it down, etc
save the file as a .gif file

method #2
You can capture screen shots on PC's
This is handy if you just want to grab a quick shot of anything showing on your screen.
You can grab just a small section of a drawing, like just one tube, etc
Whatever you capture gets put onto the Windows clipboard as temp storage.

Position the drawing or whatever you want to copy on your screen so you can see it.
Hit the PrtSc or print Screen button on your keyboard (upper right on most keyboards)
Open your favorite drawing program
Find the Paste as new drawing function in the edit menu
I use Paint shop pro, but I am sure most drawing programs are able to do this

I typically find myself fumbling among Acrobat, MS Office Picture Manager & PowerPoint to save images in various formats.  I'll have to check each one's menus more closely for options similar to the one Doug cites above.

Thanks Doug, I'll play around with that.
