Using Amp Preamp Out
« on: April 18, 2011, 02:49:24 pm »
I have Peavey amp that has a preamp out. Do i have to use a dummy load if i choose not to have a speaker plugged in to the speaker out jack of the amplifier?

Not necessarily. With a speaker connected just plug a cord into the preamp out jack. Does is interrupt the guitar signal to the speaker? If so, you don't have to have a speaker connected. However, for safety sake, put a d/l on it.

The point is that you can run a tube power amp all day long "IF" you don't send a signal thru it to the speaker. But how would you control access to the amp. Without a speaker or d/l connected, someone will eventually blow up the amp!
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!
