Got an Epi LP on the way (New Pixs Posted)
« on: June 07, 2011, 08:32:51 pm »
Well I've done it again but I thought it was a good deal for $225.00. I had a black bueaty LP Custom in the 70's, this guitar reminds me of it except I like the cream PU mounting rings and pickguard better than the BB's black ones. The LP custom I bought brand new in the early 70's cost $685.00 including tax and case. Boy has things changed since then! Hopefully the EPi standard will play and sound great.

I've been buying a lot of guitars lately. I like to get them at a price that I think is a good deal, clean them up, do any repairs needed, set them up, try them out and if I chose to not keep it for my personal use then I can sell them at a profit. Platefire

Hey! That is my guitar, except that now the knobs are white (old ones wouldn't fit the new pots) and I've got SD pups in it.

Well with the Ebony you get all the major LP elements at the smallest price now $400.00 new. The colored plain top finishes are +$80 extra and if you get the plus top=$550.00 +$79.00 case=$629.00

The Ebony has all the same Mahogany body woods, hardware, pickups as the plus minus the pretty flamed maple top. My grandson has a Plus top cherry sunburst and his plays super. My my most recent experiances with Epiphones, I'm pretty impressed with thier quality.

I've got a LP Special my Son in Law gave me and I can't believe how well this cheap little Epi sounds and plays. I use to be totally opposed to Epiphone until lately and they are really Wowed! me. Platefire

I got the LP Standard in today. Wow! I had done forgot how heavy a real LP is!!! That thing is really a reflection back to the log for sure---The guitar is like new along with case but is hev-hev-heavy. It's also got .010's on there where I'm use to .009's---but the .010's work pretty good. Might just leave them on there and try them a while. Platefire

I've played .011, .014, .017, 026, .036, .046 for years on a Strat with high action.

I started out when I was young playing with; .010, .013. .017, .026, .036, .046, never played on a set of .009's.

But "to each their own" as they say. One mans ceiling is another man's floor.

Now I play blues/blues rock/country, ect. nothing with a fast lead, but I love it tone wise.

BTW, I've gone through 4 set's of fret's on this strat, all from Stew/Mac, which I bought new.

Thanks,    Brad    :icon_biggrin:

Boy I tell ya! The LP really stays in tune good with the .010's even with all my string bending. Another thing I like about the .010's is I can feel them better than the .009's. Maybe I've reached a point where I can appreciate a heavier string nowPlatefire

Well I tried to put the best foot forward with the .010's on the LP but I just couldn't take the feel was too striff. Auuuuu feels more natural to me with the .009's on there now. Guess I'm a EB Slinkeys Man!

I play the "Gibson Vintage Reissue" 10-46's. For ME, they're the nicest I've played, and I've tried a lot of strings over the years. I like the way they sound, and they seem to keep their tone longer than some others... again, just my opinion. I know quite a few players locally that swear by D'Addarios, and I've just never liked them. Dey sound funny!  I used to play a lot of Ernie Balls too, before I tried the GVR.

One thing about it, there's a reason there's a so many different strings out there. Sometimes I wonder if the player's fingers and style of playing doesn't have a lot to do with the sound as well, between different brands.

Well I love the tone of the .010 but I just can't manipulate them to do what I do! If I practiced 3 or 4 hours a day, I'm sure I would move up to a higher gauge but until then I'll use the nines.  :icon_biggrin:

Here is some new pixs I took. Still deliberating/testing rather to keep my Hoyer Les Paul or the Epiphone. The Hoyer has been with me since the mid 80's and is a fine player but the Epihone is a lot better looker and may be a player too---time will tell! I still can't believe I got this for $225.00 with case, there are LP 100's and Specials going for that!!

Hey, it's even got the Grover tuners on it. Sweeeeet! (maybe a big part of why it stays in tune so nice?)

Good score!

Yeah, Thanks! I thought so to. It appears I've bonded with the Epi LP because I've got my Hoyer on E-bay now. The problem with the Hoyer is it's considered vintage being pre-80's and if I kept it and needed some parts--a lot of parts are unique to Hoyer and would be impossible to find. The bridge is not standard tune-o-matic but Hoyers own design. With Epi there are standard LP parts available up the Kazoo. Platefire
