Shielded Cable

Any problem with reusing RCA cable (like the miles of stuff I have sitting around from various DVD, Camera, and other electronic gadgets)  as shielded cable, from input jack to tube grids.?

If the original cables were the "cheapy" stuff in the first place I would not use it. The insulation and outer jacket is most likely not rated for the temps tube amps can generate.

Depends on how long you need the pieces to be and how flexible you need the cable to be. It might be alright for short runs of relatively straight cable

I'm all about recycling but more times than not, the free rca cables are really low temp and hard to solder.

What kind of Voltage rating does that stuff have.?
I mean, what could be lower voltage than a guitar cable, before it hits the first tube.?
And from what I have seen, shielded cable runs in the coolest part of the amp.......input jack to first gain stage. But maybe the cables you get for free are real bad.? Maybe they can only handle room temp.? Maybe up to 110 degrees.? I don't know. Just a thought, we have so many of those Yellow, Red , and White sets laying around.......

Yes most times you would use it in/for very low voltage/ signal/ current levels, but like I said it would depend on where/what you would use it for.

Some guys use it for connecting the PI coupling caps output to the tube sockets and that is way higher an AC voltage than the input guitar signal AC voltage.

It was just a thought, but... why use maybe cheap stuff of unknown ratings in something you have spent so much time/thought/work, and money on???

I like to recycle stuff to but... OTOH, Doug has great stuff for sale of know ratings and at a very good price.

Again, it was just a thought to add to the discussion.

Most of you guys have WAY more knowledge about this "stuff" than I do. I was completely unaware of the shielded cable application in the PI to Output section.
And I am not going to beat this to death. I ordered, and still have some cable I got from Hoffman. In fact, I was going to order some more, and that is when I noticed a tub full of all those brand new RCA cables we have collected over then last several years. Looked like I would not need to order any shielded cable for the rest of my life.......
No worries. I will order some more from Doug, and do my part to support this fabulous forum
