The title says t all..I got a request to build an amp for country/rockabilly.... He has a donor amp for this conversion:
P.T. pumps out ~380VDC sporting 4xEL84's + 4 12AX7's. O.T. primary 4K plate to plate, secondaries 0 - 4 - 8 ohms.
What you guys suggest?

There's a bunch of standel or standel-ish schematics floating around...  That would at least be kinda cool and different.  If the poweramp doesn't jive with the parts you have I'm sure you can rig up something big and clean with what you have.

I have a Standel 25L15 Schema from Weber, but don't know how close to a true Standel it may be...Also, O.T. is not U.L. either...hummm...Unfortunately,  I don't remember who is the forum member that built a Standel sometime ago...I will try to find the topic..
Does some of you have experience with such beast? It would be a really fun build - challenging too.
Do you have a specific circuit in mind?


I was talking to this friend and he mentioned Brian Setzer - I believe it's a Fender Bassman 6G6-A, really not sure - Reverend Horton Heat as his main influences. If I remember correct, RHH also used white tolex fender amps? SuperAmp?

Ah, my mind went right to chet atkins/johnny cash type stuff, I think of RHH as having a "hotter" sound.  Maybe one of the higher powered tweeds?  This is from www.cedist.com...
Also seems like 5k would jive with a pair of 6l6's

I've seen Reverend Horton Heat live (back in about 2005), and from what I remember, he used a blackface Super Reverb plus maybe a blonde Bassman.

That said, he discusses his guitar and amp a little for Premier Guitar magazine, and says he is using a Gretsch G6163 Executive amp (schematic) in place of the Super Reverb. It seems unusual that the schematic shows a pair of 6V6's, but no doubt he mic's the amp onstage.

NOTE: There is a much-different older Gretsch amp that uses the same model number. The old G6163 preamp has a much different circuit, and the poweramp uses 6L6's. The old preamp has a cool idea of using a separate preamp circuit for treble and bass, which might appeal to some of us here. It seems much more complicated and is not the circuit the Rev is using right now.

Naturally, your friend also needs a moderately thick hollowbody Gretsch guitar with some TV Jones filtertrons.

P.S.: Do you guys think the Tore-T revibe would be nicer than traditional on-board reverb+trem?? I have never played thru one and my friend asked about it last time we met.
