TUBE CAD (software)
« on: October 18, 2011, 07:51:31 pm »
Has anyone used this software that could comment on it? Is it useful in understanding tube circuits? Does it work on Windows 7?  My apologies if this is the wrong area for this post.

yes, i use it. it will push up your learning curve to model fender and marshall ckts since the operating parameters are well documented.

works with later versions of windows except 64bit.

it is a useful tool, but migrating to TINA and LT Spice as i learn more on setup and use.

Windows 7 has an option in Control Panel -> Programs -> Run programs made for previous versions of Windows

I don't know what options it gives, or how well it works, cause I haven't tried it out.

it won't work. antique electronic supply publishes that fact. i believe the author cites visual basic compiler limitations.

yes, i tried it anyway.

i run win7 64bit @ wk. i remote-desktop into a winXP system to run it.

I just ordered Super Spice and IT HAS TUBES! Now I just have to learn how to use it. It probably wouldn't be that big of a deal but I just started the prerequisites for engineering school and Calculus is, uh, intense to say the least (it's tearing me a new one).

A good teacher makes all the difference for a calculus class. It really can be somewhat easy to understand and learn, if the teacher knows how to present the material in an understandable manner.

The best math teacher I ever had was my Calc I teacher. The worst math teacher I ever had was my Calc II teacher.

Calculus is much closer to philosophy than Math alone... real Math is Algebra with n-dimensions... However, if you wanna go crazy, check out Runge-Kutta matrix methods to improve errors... :l2:

Calc I is baby steps.  Multi variable will get interesting.  DiffyQ will separate the men from the boys.  All my Calc teachers sucked.  My DiffyQ teach was fantastic.  My Chem Teacher was also fantastic and went on to get full tenure at an Ivy League school.  He was an awesome inspiration who deserved everything he accomplished.  Reminded me of the character Edward James Almos played in Stand and Deliver.  He would run up and down the lecture hall steps to make a point with someone.  Had us parade around in groups to talk about atoms and reactions.  Nobody slept in his class and nobody missed his class.  The guy was awesome.  Made me want to become a teacher!

Tubecad works quite well on windows 32 bit versions,  it even worked briefly on windows 10 . There is also an online power output stage calculator, but you're not able to parallel tubes like you can in tubecad.https://www.vtadiy.com/loadline-calculators/power-stage-calculator/

Not tried:

Install Oracle VM VirtualBox 6.x.
https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Download_Old_Builds_6_0

Get a WinXP CD and key.
https://archive.org/details/WinXPProSP3x86
(600MB ISO file)
key: MRX3F-47B9T-2487J-KWKMF-RPWBY

The VirtualBox is about 99.9% "real XP" and I would expect it to run XP-era code.

Yes, lots of first-time fumbling to get XP running in VM, and then to get TubeCAD software into the XP machine.

What is the installation file for TubeCAD? I know I have it somewhere but am not finding it.
